International Students

Redeemer Christian High School is pleased to offer a limited number of placements to international students. We offer a strong academic program taught from a Christian worldview, as well as a Christian and caring environment for your child. Because we plan for small class sizes, students receive the necessary individual attention to assist in their learning. Our graduates are accepted into the best university and college programs in Canada.

NOTE: Due to increased interest for next year, most of our classes are at, or near, capacity. Applications received at this point will be placed in a waiting pool (please do not pay application fee until instructed to do so). If a seat is available, eligible applicants will be contacted to pay the application fee and come in for an application interview.

International Student Policy

International students will:

  • find their own accommodation (we are not a boarding school).

  • ideally have a guardian, relative, or friend living in the Ottawa area who can provide emotional and cultural support.

  • participate in daily devotions and attend weekly chapel.

It is important that international students hoping to study at Redeemer have a level of English sufficient to go into regular classes. To ensure a minimum English language proficiency the applicant must complete one of the following if English is not their first language:

IELTS

(International English Language Testing System)
Academic Version – Overall 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each band

TOEFL

(Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Internet-based – Overall 80, with a minimum of 20 in each component; reading, listening, speaking, and writing

International students may come to Redeemer for one semester or the entire school year. If they wish to graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma from Redeemer they must have at least seven courses taken at an Ontario Ministry of Education inspected school such as ours.

Step 1

Review the Website

Review the website to ensure you fully understand the vision and mission of Redeemer Christian High School, and the parent/school partnership we offer your family.

Parents will need to submit the following:

  • the completed International Application Form.

  • academic certificates: previous two years report.

  • cards/current transcript (translated if necessary).

  • a copy of either an IELTS or TOEFL test (if English is not applicant’s first language).

  • a copy of the applicant’s passport (showing passport number, expiry and date of birth).

  • a copy of the applicant’s immunization record.

  • a one-time non-refundable $250 application fee (only for families new to Redeemer).

Step 2

Submit an Application

Step 3

Acceptance Interview

Once a completed application is received, the school will contact you for a family interview to determine if Redeemer Christian High School is the best place for your child. When international students apply from abroad, we will conduct interviews using electronic options such as Skype.

After principal approval, we will issue an invoice. Redeemer is not publicly funded, all of our operating costs come from tuition, donations, and fundraising. Cost for international students are only slightly higher than for domestic students.

Step 4

Pay Fees

Step 5

Receive Letter of Acceptance

A letter of acceptance for Visa purposes will be issued once tuition has been received in full. Tuition will be refunded if the Visa is declined and original copy of rejection from the Embassy is provided.

To ensure you have all the proper documentation in place, we recommend you apply for your Visa/study permits as soon as you receive your Letter of Acceptance from Redeemer. Be sure to allow 2-3 months for processing.

For complete details on which Visa/study permits you require – and how to apply – visit the Citizen and Immigration Canada website.

Step 6

Apply for Visa/Study Permits

Step 7

Complete and Notarize a Custodian Declaration Form

A minor studying in Canada without a parent or legal guardian, must have a custodian to obtain a study permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. A custodian acts as the primary caregiver for a minor while they are studying in Canada and is either a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant. For more information, visit Studying in Canada as a Minor.

The parents or legal guardians in the country or territory of origin and the custodian in Canada must complete a notarized Custodianship Declaration Form.

Submit copy of Visa/study permits and Custodianship Declaration to Redeemer.

Step 8

Submit Documentation

Step 9

Apply for Health Insurance Coverage

All international students require health insurance coverage. Contact the school for a list of health insurance providers. Submit proof of medical insurance to the school.

Registration packages are mailed to students approximately a month before registration day in the fall.
